So what is the deal with Dub Turbo anyway?
DUBTurbo came onto the market last year and have really made some waves in the industry. Why? Because they do something that only expensive beat makers have been able to do. They make great sounding beats that can be converted to WAV format. If you look at the main competitor in the inexpensive beat maker market, Sonic Producer has to stand out. It's an online beat maker, where Dub Turbo is a software beat maker. The difference simply means you can download DubTurbo to your computer, whereas Sonic Producer is strictly online. Meaning that you log-in to make beats with Sonic Producer. Also, Sonic Producer exports to Mp3 only. This is an important distinction.
The thing I like most about DUBTurbo is the way it allows you to get quality sounding beats. Remember that .wav can be converted to mp3, and although Sonic Producer is a great beat maker, it really only allows for mp3 conversion. This is excellent for getting your music on the web, but is laughable as a way to make a quality CD to show to a record label or in my opinion even your friends.
Now there is no reason not to try both DUBTurbo and Sonic Producer. Both beat makers can be returned within 90-days, no questions asked. When you think about it from that perspective, it makes sense that you would try both and then return the one you don't like.
Expensive? Not exactly. At $30 it makes Logic and ProTools seem rediculously overpriced. And I believe they in-fact are a bit overpriced if you just want to make some nice sounding beats to lay down lyrics over. Eventually you will want to spend the extra bucks for something like Logic Pro, but I wouldn't start there if you are new to beat making and want the quick and easy way to make solid beats by the end of the day.
DUBTurbo is a good place to start but you also might try Sonic Producer.
